'09 Mule Deer

Shot him on opening day after about a 3 mile hike.  He busted out and I chased him over a few ridges until finally getting a shot at about 300 yards.  It could have been about 30 degrees cooler that day cuz it sure would have made the drag a little easier.  It was a quick end to the rifle season....but there is still a bow tag to fill!

Dani and I searched long and hard in 4C over opener in search of something about this caliber.  No luck.  Hope to make it happen last week of the season.  Congrats on a great buck.

Thanks guys, ya I have been up and down the badlands all fall, have seen a few more about this size, but they are tough to get to.  Tim you and Dani drew another tag this year? Hope you find another monster to take down!

Dani patiently waited 5 years for her tag.  She's been a trooper in passing up many good first time bucks.  We've been footing in the miles.  Well, in all honesty you can't really judge your time out in the badlands via miles.  To properly hunt mule deer you should use hours.  On average I suppose a walk only goes to 4 miles.  It takes a lot of time to properly glass and approach overlooks.

Anyway, she's been holding in there.  I have given her all the power in deciding what buck to put on the ground and she's been holding true to the "I want a 5 point."  We've seen quite a few but then she asks for my opinion.  I say, remember that buck I showed you...it is about that big.  She then say, okay, I'll pass.  Ha ha, she is getting a little antsy though.  Doubt has already set in but we have five straight days of hunting over the last weekend.  I'm hoping God rewards us for our hard work (I'll take a gift like he gave me but we have to be realistic).  If not, nothing you can do but try again.  We've already made awesome memories so I'm looking forward to the rest of the hunt.
