So, congratulations America.  You seem to want to ban guns because they have killed children but dare not to realize you've actually killed about as many as ten Hitlers did.

Wait till you hear and see your first child's heartbeat on the ultrasound.  The thought of someone willingly destroying that for "convenience" makes you want to throw up.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

If you believe that the unborn baby is not real and living, then I can understand the thinking of "our own bodies". The fact of the matter is that the baby is real and living. Please think about that.

I like to look at this in a whole other direction. A lot of us on here think or say that we are all about our freedoms. Especially when it comes to our guns. No one wants their "freedom" or right to bear arms to go away. We all say that the government has no right to tell us what we can do with our beloved personal possessions(guns). So how can we say this and then turn around and say I want the government to dictate what we can do with our own bodies.  I look at this in an entirely different way.   I am against abortion.   I think it's a responsibility issue above all.   If teens are old enough to have sex they are old enough to know that they could end up with a baby.  Don't have sex if you don't want to risk having a baby.   If want to enjoy the pleasures of sex you have to deal with the potential consequences.   If you're 16 and you think you're old enough to have sex, and you happen to get your girlfriend pregnant you are old enough to get a job and take care of that baby.  What about college?   That was a sacrifice you made when you had sex with your girlfriend,  knowing that you could possibly get her pregnant.

A lot of young people think that sex is a game you play with your boyfriend or girlfriend,  schools teach us to practice safe sex,  beginning at a fairly young age.   Instead of teaching that sex is only for people who are responsible enough to deal with the potential consequences.

Instead of teaching your kids to practice safe sex,  teach them to NOT have sex until they can accept the facts and DEAL with the potential consequences.   Killing your baby is the easy way out.   Grow up and deal with it.

And I'd be really interested to know what percentage of abortions are performed on rape victims.

The mantis, I don't disagree with anything you are saying. I just wanted to point out that abstinence sounds great and all to teach young people but I don't think it's all that realistic. Would you have (or did you) practice abstinence? Me either. Sarah palin advocates that route too but for some reason her own kids didn't even listen to her. When you have young people that age with crazy hormones, what do you think is going to happen? Parents along with public schools should show the reality of the consequences of having a kid before you are ready. Do accidents happen? Yep but a lot can be prevented by being educated and putting young girls on birth control. Then there is the whole religious aspect of not having sex before your married, no birth control etc. Go ahead and have a young daughter and not provide birth control or education and see what happens. Sure some will follow the rules but I was "that age" not that long ago and remember the reality of what happens. Just my opinion.

I see alot of guys here preaching abstinence, responsibility, and condoms here.  I sure hope you guys are the ones with the perfect pasts that met a girl, went to church every sunday, got married, had sex for the first time, planned to have kids etc etc.  Because when I look at my past....oh boy, I remember taking a few swamp donkeys for a spin that would have made my life very different had they gotten pregnant, so I would be a huge hipocrite to tell someone else to not have sex.

I do find it amusing that some of you preaching condoms and birth control belong to religions that have deemed these things a sin.

I don't really have much of a side or opinion on this topic, pretty indifferent, just glad I'm not a woman that may one day be in such a position of decision and judgement.

what are some of your thoughts on the morning after pill

Again I'm lacking evidence here, just a hunch, but I suspect the majority of abortions don't take place with a responsible male holding the female's hand helping her through the decision they made together.  Ill take a guess that the parents of the soon to be mother's have a lot more to do with these types of decisions than the father of the unborn.

As far as stats go, a roll in the hay once a day for a year or two starts to widdle away at that 99% effective, and i don't know about you, but condoms break...often.  am I saying abortion is the answer, no, just that its not as simple as telling people these 2 or 3 "solutions" will prevent unplanned pregnancy.

A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said: "Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even one year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together."

The doctor said: "Ok, and what do you want me to do?"

She said: "I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your help with this."

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady:

"I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you, too." She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: "You see, in order for you not to have to take care of two babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the second one is born. If we're going to kill one of them anyway, it really doesn't matter which one it is, does it? There would be no risk for your body if you chose to kill the one in your arms."

The woman was horrified and said: "No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!"

"I agree", the doctor replied. "But you seemed to be ok with it, so I thought maybe that might be the best solution."

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point. He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!

What's that saying?  "It's interesting that everyone in favor of abortion has already been born"!

Life begins at conception.  The taking of a human life is murder.  Murder is illegal.

If you think life begins at some point after this, you need to get educated.

If you think that abortion is fine because it prevents overpopulation then consider this:  In 2012 the death rate in the US hit 2,500,000 people.  The highest annual number of abortions recorded since 1973 was almost 1,600,000, and in the last several years has been around 1.2 million, roughly only half of the deaths recorded in the US.

Morning after pills prevent ovulation so that you do not get pregnant. they do not kill fertilized eggs. Therefore they prevent conception of sperm and egg. Many people get that wrong by thinking the pill is the same as abortion.

If a woman is that desparate to get an abortion I wouldnt give a rats if they did it unsafe. Most have so many more options and abortion should be the last one and not an equal option. If they are so deparate to be an illegal abortion then they get what they deserve for being a murderer.

I agree with this 100%. Just didn't take the time to write it.

I'm a realist when it comes to abortion. Women will have them whether it is legal or not.  I'd rather have a safe option be available then for them to go to then some back alley clinic.

The catholic church is already doing a good job of that on their missions to tell these people condoms are a sin and god will protect them from aids and famine if they refuse the doctors condoms and accept Christ instead of the local traditional god of the indigenous people.  Sometimes a local genocide happens to the converted after the good Christian folks have gone.

From what I can tell, it is uncertain if the morning after pill has a negative affect on a fertilized egg. If it does, it is just another form of abortion and is murder. If it simply prevents fertilization than it is a contraceptive and is OK in my book.

Ok,  all you abortions "pro choice" folks.   Due to advances in technology we can or soon will be able to tell certain things about the "baby" or "fetus" very soon.   Things like sex,  birth defects, and maybe even sexual orientation or political preference.   Would you be ok with a liberal baby being aborted by conservative parents or anything else?

1990-2007 ABORTIONS:

Black women per 1000 avg: 58.6/year

White women per 1000 avg: 15.4/year

That's racist?

You won't go to hell.  You can confess your sins.  God forgives.  I think the argument of birth control as a religious item doesn't hold.  When you practice no sex you end up recycling eggs and sperm.  So technically, by practicing no sex you are indeed doing the same as birth control.

Where my religioius beliefs kick in fully is I believe life begins at conception.  And that should be cherished by the individuals and blessed by God.

As for the 99%.  Oh boy oh boy, if it wasn't near that we'd have all sorts of babies being popped and the abortion numbers posted would be twice this many.

I'll set aside the political joke even though I chuckled.

But this is another one of those things I have a tough time with.  While I believe in God I also have to inject realism into my life.  In today's world, it is very difficult to have more than two kids and have the "normal" upper middle class life.  Sure, you can do it, but you will be a 100% devoted person financially with little room for things to go wrong in your life.  All while probably not enjoying it how we would like.

That said, I have taken steps to prepare myself for one or two kids.  Plus, I'm getting to that age we need to decide and we need to decide soon.  Anyway, point is, lets say the time is now for us to know defects, etc.  What would I do if I knew the baby we concieved was going to have a very difficult life and it would be severe life changing to us?  That isn't as easy of a thing to answer.  Technically, I should be saying no abortion.  But a little bit of me things it might be okay.

In the end, things like this probably come down to are you willing to take what God gives you and make the best of it.  If not, you probably should just not have children as anything can happen.

But see what I mean, it is one of those thinkers.  I'm just being open and honest on this.

What would I do?  Thankfully, we don't have that ability yet.  I would be scared of making that decision.  I may just end up not having kids.

It is the number one thing I am scared of.  I think about it a lot lately because I'm getting that age I need to start making decisions.

But point is, I know what you are saying murdock but dangit, it is not as cut and dry as someone that gets hammered and decides to take a roll in the hay.  Or some other severely unplanned pregnancy.  Those people made decisions they could stop.

Fine and dandy.   Even if you support abortion in cases of rape and serious health concerns for the mother you have to admit the vast majority of abortions are different circumstances.

So all of you over population morons.  You do know that white europe is actually shrinking and being replaced by Muslims.  You do know that 50 million aborted american babies have been replaced by 50 million illegal immigrants... right..... Not tied to any religion....  Until somebody can definitively tell me when life starts, there is a chance that abortion is Murder.  Who could take that chance?

Comfortable with the fact that my wife and I had five kids and no abortion.
Money never was part of the decision.  She just kept getting pregnant.
There is no excuse to get pregnant if you do not want the kid.
If the female will not take care of it then the male can.
Yes, there are times to abort.
For those who have the perfect reason to justify abortion, I hope for your sake the one who will makes the final judgement will buy into your justification.
Thanks dB.

Thank you. Although I am torn on the topic of abortion, I still believe it is a choice that should be left the individual. Same goes with a black gun with a huge mag.

Where is the line? You want freedom or not? Your either free or your not! Think about it...

This is another one of those that beats in the back of my head.

I just think, what if it happened to someone I knew?  Lets say my wife.  It would be a difficult 9 months and then you'd find out this baby could kill my wife during birth or before.  I'd have a long mean talk with God about that.

But point is, I know what you are saying murdock but dangit, it is not as cut and dry as someone that gets hammered and decides to take a roll in the hay.  Or some other severely unplanned pregnancy.  Those people made decisions they could stop.

I think you would most likely find that the child is no less of a miracle than one that was conceived in love, and shouldn't have any less of a right to life.  Although a horrible situation for the woman, I can't understand why it would need to be made worse.  The odds of getting raped during that small window of fertility in a woman's cycle must be pretty slim, and I would hope that the woman, with her husband, if married, would consider that perhaps God had this plan for them and this child.

Tim, you have to put your trust in God and quit worrying about the 2.3 kid thing.  Remember, he won't give you more than you can handle.  Right now you are thinking about yourself and how you will be affected in any number of possible scenarios.  To me, the absolute joy of parenthood was/is the total committment of yourself to the well-being of another human being for the rest of your life.

Agree.  Babies happen.  For the wife and I if we would of consider monies in having babies we would not of had five.  I quess we might of had more material items, another gun or two, more monies in the bank and so on.  Less headaches in raising kids.  Maybe one less welfare case as some state. (however they all work and contribute).
But those material items and more monies do not even come close to what life is about.
Have the babies if that is what you feel you want with the marriage.  Take care of them and provide for them.  You will not regret.  For those with the more practical mind.  Well to each his own.  DB

Abortion is the symptom of no religion.  Some laugh about religion, but it's our moral compass.  Without it what makes any murder wrong?   Just because it is???  That don't hold water.  Remember the old cliche from the 60's "if it feels good do it"?   Maybe that should stand up in court for gay paedophiles.  Your honor we like to bend over little boys because it feels good.  If there is no God then anything is ok.   Who are you to say that a murderer should go to jail.  Who are you to say that a paedophile has no right to sex with a four year old.  Who are you to say it's wrong for me to break into your home steal your money, have sex with your daughter, shoot your wife, and stab you?  If it isn't sin what's wrong with it?   Just because you think it's wrong doesn't mean anything.  Just because we have laws doesn't mean anything.  What makes it all wrong?

WOW!!!! I like that.

Abortion is a touchy subject. There are so many variables that go along with it. I am glad I wasnt aborted. My mom was 16 and the doctor told her that is what she should do. I wasnt married when I got my fiance pregnant. I was in shock when she told me. I thought wow, the consequences of pleasure. 9 years ago today, my first son was born and what a blessing he has been. 3 kids later, I took care of the whole getting my wife pregnant issue, if she becomes pregnant, our marriage isnt as good as I thought. The journey of life I have all began when my parents stood up to the dr and accepted the RESPONSIBILITY of their choice that one night, so that I could have life. I am very grateful for that.
