Al Gore will be excited!!!

The level of the most important heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere, carbon dioxide, has passed a long-feared milestone, scientists reported Friday, reaching a concentration not seen on the earth for millions of years.

"not seen on earth for millions of years"?  haha, did they dig up the readings of millions of years ago in a time capsule?

I believe they drill the ice caps and pull cores.  When they  exam the cores they can measure the CO2.  Not sure how they assign a time frame to it, but that doesn't seem that far fetched.

That's an interesting finding.  Whether it is of Scientific significance will be debated, but that's another topic I'll leave for the experts.
yes, they get a lot of encapsulated trapped gases from ice, rock, etc.  I don't  know how accurate it is, though probably at least accurate enough to show a trend one way or another.
Of course, according to our Scientific  expert Plainsman and his reference book,  the earth is only what? 5000 or 10000 years old, so all this Scientific jumbo jumbo is all BS anyway, especially if we don't ant to believe it anyway....

Well bobkat I have had to keep one foot in the scientific world and one in the Bible.  I have run core samples in wetlands and dated back tens of thousands of years myself using phytoliths.  I have also worked collecting soil anions that people tell me they have tracked the weather back more than a half million years.  I take everything with a grain of salt though, since there is a great arrogance about science.  Whenever a small glitch occurs I don't think statistical analysis solves it.   So I work within the framework of science with a personal understanding that there is a lot we do know, and even more that we do not know.  I will admit there is much I do not know, but I am always amazed when we find something new that we thought we knew the opposite just 20 years before.  Right now I am very interested in the "Great Divergence" of  human genetic history, and the possibilities of how science and the Bible may come together.  There are answers out there, but currently they are beyond our meager capability.

just a sample of how fast the ice changes in the world.  during world war 2 a fleet of bombers were forced to land on the ice during a storm.  I believe it was up in greenland.  by the 80's they were burried by 20' of ice.

For the bible and science to agree on human divergence, the whole darn book would have to be rewritten. And don't get me started on your take regarding the age of the earth. I remember that conversation clear as day.

Bobkat is that a little glimpse of what you chastize others for??

Luckily there' never any Religious Intolerance on FBO! Religious intolerance is against Christian Theocracy, and everybody her is a devout Christian and following the rules, etc! I must be reading the above posts wrong - comes from being an old fuddy duddy, I guess....

I guess your "religious intolerance" does not even allow you to simply refer to the bible as the bible rather than a "reference book".

If you want to be hall moniter, make sure you try and follow your own rules.

Eyexer. The ww2 aircraft, b-17's and Lightnings, landed on a glacier.  Theyweren't "covered" with snow and ice, but rather sunk in the icecap till they hit the underlying rock!  Have you ever left an ice spud laying on the ice overnight?  Same thing but add 60 years and you get the idea!
The recovery and rebuilding these planes is a fascinating story and fills several lectures by the guys who did it, but they do make it clear that the plans sank, NOT got covered, so it is a poor argument against global warming.  Thinking about it, the warmer the average temps, the faster they might sink, but that,s probably as hollow an argument than the ice thicknng and covering them up theory.
BTW, I have no opinion about the global warming theory, but just thought I'd straighten out this meaningless argument as I've seen it on every GW discussion pretty well on every website!  Couldn't help but straighten it out.  No disrespect intended.
I appologise to Plainsman and made my comment partly in jest to pull his chain after some of the earlier anti Muslim stuff he was proselytizing  on a different thread.  The "Bible is always right because God wrote it and can't be wrong and every other religion is nasty and wring" attitude that is so prevelant.  Sorry For the attitude of my post, though MANY, MANY self described Christians firmly still believe the earth is about 5000 years old, as PROVEN inGenesis!

read it in national geographic probably 20 years ago.  a guy on a commercial airliner saw them through the ice and put together an expedition.  found them and steamed a huge hole down to them and steamed all the way around the planes.  then dismantled them piece by piece and pulled them out and reassembled them.  they were in pristine condition.  neat as hell

You question the human cause of global warming and you read National Geographic? That can't make the folks at Nat Geo very happy, they try an ram that down their readers throats almost every issue these days. I susbscribe and I think they are just a little bit out there on their crusade against human carbon.

that was probably the only time I read Nat. Geo,lol.  Was only interested in it because of the bombers.  I believe it was when I was going to A&P school, life was only about aircraft then lol.

Bobkat, you should know according to fishmahns claims they can identify down to a ten year period what was the hottest decade ever.

Depending on who is paying for the "scientific jumbo jumbo" "study", the Bible is often times far more truthful.

But hey, I'm glad you got it all "straightened out" for those of us that can;t figure it out ourselves, I don;t know where we would be without you liberals tellling us how to think on FBO! .

"The level of the most important heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere, carbon dioxide, has passed a long-feared milestone,"

Ahhh, now this would explain why we in the Midwest and throughout the world experienced the shortest and warmest winters in history.......

What a joke.  It also does not explain why there has been zero global warming (according to absolutely anyone in science who studies the science but led by work done by Dr. Roy Spencer) for 16 YEARS straight now!!

It's the same old "frying the planet" presentation spewed out by the same old dumb and blind sheep that suckle from the teat of Al Gore.  Even some of the Algorians are beginning to distance themselves from that nut.   Some still cling to him!  Right fishmahn??!

If you google " glacier girl" you,l likely find the story of the planes.  Theywereheading to England and weathered our or ran outofgasand were forced to land on theice cap.  No one got killed, and when thewarended theywerelargely forgotten.
I think they found the sitting on the rocks in over 100 feet of ice or so.  They steamed their way down to rhem and managed to raise a b17 andattemptedto fly it out offtheglacier when it caught fire andburnedto a crisp!  Tragic,
they also raided a P38 and , hauled it out in bits and pieces, and rebuilt it and named it"glacier Girl!"    One of the only flying example today, an you might see her at Oshkosh in the summer or at different air shows.  I!m not what museum sheis based at.   A huge expensive undertaking.
there's still some more under the ice in Greenland and I suspectmoremighteventually be recovered.  WW2 aircraft are so rare it is cost  effective to recover them for oceans, fresh water, jungles, etc.  depending on how rare they are. Someone recently found a bunch of Spitfires buried in ?Myamar? From the end of the war.  I heard rumors about an Ircraft in a LakeI fishin during the winte so am planning on may be,owing some bulges an snoop into it his winter.  IVF you know of an old WW2 aircraft in a deserte barn you probably havealicenseto print money! LOL

what?  September 21, 95,000 BC @ approximately 8:45 PM?  how is that?  seriously, the bible and science are so far apart on this issue there is no way they will ever agree.  how you can talk about dating core samples from 10-20,000 years ago in ND wetlands and then take the positions you do regarding the age of the earth, science v bible, human divergence, etc.... is completely beyond me.  its a slap in the face to the scientific community and the scientific process that should've ruled your career for 20-30+ years.

I asked that question simply to see if you had an idea of either the science I was speaking of or the part of he Bible that may have a coinciding incident.    It's hard to tell since there are three or four people that you  can't tell if it's simple hate for the Bible or if it's that they think they/we know everything.   My view is we are advancing so fast that in 100 years they will laugh at our science as if we were cave men.  Lets not get to full of ourselves.  Why is it opened minded when a liberal considers all points of view, but stupid when a conservative does it?   I would rather be remembered as open minded, perhaps at times naive, but kind, rather than arrogant and foolish.

Why does the Bible have to be a part of this thread?

"Glacier Girl" is in a museum in Kentucky, doubtful to ever fly again.  More damage found than they expected,  but I only went to a couple of links, with thousands more to go.  maybe I will find some info about buried vs. sunk,
