Ice house door

I am in the drawing plan stage of building an ice house. I am trying to track down a door for it. I am looking for a ice house or rv type door. I saw icehouse supply has them but I am not trying to spend $300 plus $100 for shipping. Any of you local guys have a place you picked them up at?

I'm hoping to get going on a house this summer/fall as well.  I've been doing a lot of research on them.  Post some updates/pictures as you go if you would.

Also I did find a lot of good information over on hotspotoutdoors if you are still in planning stages.  There are a few guys who did very detailed write ups of their builds.

What size are you building?

look at the IC ones then get a better one; if its really cold and the wind is blowing rear to front on the door side it'll frost the door to the point of it being really hard to open in the morning (like really really hard)

my guess is that a better insulated door would do wonders

 Depends on size and weight.

Great I will check that site out. As far as size, I am leaning towards a skid house that is 6.5x10 because I would be able to load the house and ranger on a trailer to get them to the lake. Skid house because I have multiple lakes close to where I live.

you can pick up a cheap generic insulated steel door at menards for about $100 on sale... they always have them, and if yours gets broken into or wrecked, it is an easy fix... if it need be replaced in a remote area, any lumber yard will have a cheap(er) one in stock in 32 or 36"...

if you do the build yourself and know how they go in, you and a buddy could replace it in an hour right on the ice with a cordless drill or driver...

only thing going this route, you need walls over 7', as rough in height on an exterior door is 82"...

fwiw, i would also go with cheap replacement windows (not new construction)... they are available in standard sizes in sliders or single hung, and very easily replaced of broken... would not spend big money on fish house windows or doors...

good luck!!!

I have got a new door for sale.  It is a double door that you would use in the rear of the house if you wanted to load an ATV. It is insulated with one door having a window.  Would have to check the exact measurements.  $245

you could try calling West River in Mandan, they stock alot of trailer house doors, like the ones used in many fish houses.
