Curious if anyone with this has had any side effects or regrets having this implanted in there dog? Thanks
I've adopted 3 dogs with chips and none of them showed any signs of side effects.
First time i heard about a microchip to dogs. I did a little research and it looked useful. Maybe i will put one in my dog and tell how it work
I’ve had chips in all my dogs since they were available. Let’s see, 8 or 9 dogs. I’ve never seen or heard a complication from one, though there is always a very remote chance of infection, though this has to be pretty tiny risk and easily treated if it even did occur.
They are really easy to pop in, don’t cause the dog any pain during or after insertion, and the risk of any complication from it would be almost zero, and the benefits if your dog were lost or stolen would be immense! All vet clinics, humane society places, dog pounds, have them. Though there are several different companies making them, most places have readers for most of them.
Putting Mirco-chips in young pups can cause a rare problem. Sometimes the chip will migrate from the orignal site as the pup grows. Best to wait until dog has grow a bit of mass.
Good point bdog. Your vet should know when your dog is big enough. I once has aa chip migrated from between the front shoulders to over the hind quarters. Didn’t hurt the dog but was a bit harder to find. Not a bad idea to have a vet or vet tech do a quick check a year or two post insertion. Just takes a minute. The animal shelters might do it as a service, too.
