MT Mule deer

Been a long time since i hunted in MT for mule deer. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on units to hunt. I have a general unit tag for mule deer, probably just going during rifle season. Was thinking about exploring the units in the SE part of state, around ashland / broadus area but heard alot of reports about how heavily hunted this area is. Another option was to go east of Jordan, 700 unit. Last time i hunted i went here, not a bad unit, seen some but no definate shooter. Unit 410 is another, have some friends going there for elk also thought about teaming up with them, but heard not real good mule deer in this unit. Thoughts?

Well I can you that i hunted down by Broadus once Saw lot and lots of deer and some really big ones, only problem we had was they were all on private land. Hardly saw any deer on public land. we nver really hunted over by ashland but i know alot of people that do and have pretty good luck, lots of land to hunt on and also alot of people. It isn't very rugged country but alot of trees.

The last 2 years weve hunted unit 410, and thats where we qre going this year again. Lots of deer there also but you want see them from the road, and some of the unit is very very rugged and alot of trees again. There is alo to elk there also. We are just stating to get the unit figured out cause there is alot of land to hunt.

Unit by Jordan just had 270,000 some odd acres burn ( contained but there could be some burning yet in the center but it is not spreading anymore) so no idea what its like, but the landscape was very similar to unit 410

thanks.. some friends of mine have the combo tag and are going to hunt 410 for both seasons if need be for elk and deer. may go with them if going back during rifle season. Heard both good and bad about it for mule deer. but always nice to hunt different areas. You been seeing muley's more in the norhern portion up into the refuge or some all over? I would just be going in on foot, but have no issues hiking as far as needed.

The deer are all over, but we don't see them on the roads, not any good ones anyways. I've never been up on the refuge as it closes for Mule deer bucks on about the 12th of November (need to check CMR regs)  A couple of years ago when we first went there a game warden told me to stay south of Crooked Creek Road for the deer, not sure if thats true or not butwe generally have.

When are you planning on going?
