Normally I would be able to give you some info but I haven't been out in a month and have had trouble finding clear water this year. I don't think it matters too much what time of day if you are on a small lake, I've speared fish from mid morning until late afternoon. Last place I tried was crooked and visibility was about 3 feet, saw a few but wasn't worth a return trip. Good luck.
Water is pretty clear on Devils Lake. Pelican -west side south of the Brinsmade bridge anywhere near the underwater RR tracks is a good spot to start. Flashy decoy and a teaser helps a lot. Our spear house is in 12 feet of water and can see the bottom just fine even when the sun is starting to go down. Not a lot of snow left on the lake so the light shines through pretty well.
I'm heading out to run a few tip ups with my boys the weekend after next, I've boat fished the DL area but never on ice. I have not made it out this year cuz of work, but looking for a couple good spots to entertain the boys with some flags this ice season yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I lost two giants and caught a nice pike at beaver bay last week! I was set up for walleyes so they were breaking me off! I will be going back this weekend set up for pike and hopefully those big guys are biting.
Your a newbie like me! Nobody will respond to you because they are afraid of new blood!
