Went out to Douglas Bay last Sunday. Fished the northern back bays. Ice was 18+ inches thick. Punched a lot of holes looking for eyes. Fish depths from 8ft to 36ft with minimal success. We managed 1 18" eye, a 12lb northern, and a Cisco. Threw the whole tackle box at them with no colors or lures being favored. There was 1-2" of water on the ice, so if you're out plan on getting some good boots. Looking to try a little closer to the fat of the lake on the east end this weekend. A little concerned with the warm temps and water on the ice.
The northern pike (known as the pike in Britain), Esox lucius, is a species of carnivorous fish of the genus Esox (the pikes). They are typical of brackish and freshwaters of the northern hemisphere (i.e. holarctic in distribution). They are also known by the literal translation of their latin name, "water wolf".
Went out yesterday with a friend of mine. we cought 25 perch threw a few back they ranged from 7 inches to 13 inches most where around 10 to 12 inch rang, also got 1 18 inch walleye, started to slow down at about 2:30 and all of a sudden we got onto a nice northern but snapped the line at the bottom of the hole. I saw a few crappie on the camera and a few northern swim by, and all the perch that where down their. Ice was about 30 inches safe to drive on. Fished in about 25 ft of water.
Non Stop perch biting and actually got very frustrating after a while. Ended up catching around 40 perch but only 20 were keepers. Caught two 17 inch walleyes and one 19 inch all around sun-set. We were fishing in 12 FOW. Jigging didn't seem to help at all. Overall this is a great day of ice fishing!
I want to take my two sons out fishing on Saturday. I'm wondering if someone can give me some pointers on where to start? I'm not looking for a hot spot or anything, just some general help to put him on fish. I have not fished the reservoir in many years. I also do not care what species we catch. Thank you in advance and happy new year.
Anyone know of any lakes around the Bismarck area that are clear enough for spearing?
Big pike are biting . caught some on a small jig and minnow some are fishing with smelt and catching pike
Very slow today. Ice is plenty thick for driving. Fished at 9ft 12 ft 15 ft and 22 ft. Caught 1 30 inch northern in the deep. And 1 small non keeper walleye slow bite
Fished West Park Lake from 1 to 5. Northerns were biting in 5 ft of water by the cattails. One decent walleye around 430 in 22 ft.
Caught many 3.5lb northerns and one larger one that missed placing by a few ounces. Constant flags all day with many missed fish and biting off lines. Used minnows and jigs. Put steel leaders on but did not produce as well as mono leaders.
Good turn out for the tourney. Some of the biggest walleye I have ever seen caught at this tourney.
